Pool Water Quality in Las Vegas

As warmer weather approaches don’t you want to have excellent water quality? We say this because as summer progresses it isn’t uncommon for us to hear that people feel their water feels disgusting. Truly, it feels this way because you have to think about everything that happens in a swimming pool. Keep in mind, just because it is clear and blue doesn’t mean it’s going to be great to swim in. As time goes by you will be adding lots of chlorine and the water will have numerous bathers which add the following to your pool water:

  • Body oils
  • Soap
  • Suntan oils
  • Suntan lotions
  • Dirt
  • Urine
  • Sweat
  • So much more

And if you haven’t changed out your water in a long time, now is the time!

So when you think about it, swimming can be a great form of relaxation, cooling off and entertaining friends and family but as your water ages, it isn’t going to feel great if you don’t change it out at least every two years. This is one of the main reasons why you might smell like chlorine when you get out, your skin will be dry, itchiness occurs and the dreaded red/stinging eyes occur. With that said, we want to examine why eyes turn red and it’s not because of high amounts of chlorine which most people think!

If you have been swimming in a public pool and you notice you have bloodshot eyes, it’s not because of the chlorine, rather URINE is what is causing them to sting and turn red!

The nitrogen in the urine combines with chlorine and it forms what’s known as chloramines and it’s the chloramine that causes your eyes to turn red! With this being said, an important tip would be not to swim in a pool with if you can smell high levels of chlorine because chances are it’s filled with high levels of urine! Bottom line, if you can smell it, stay out of it!

Chlorine’s main purpose is to clean out and prevent bacteria, E-coli, and algae from forming in the pool. It’s not meant to deal with urine.

That’s why with as many bathers as swimming pools have, it’s vital to change out the water in your swimming every two years (sooner for commercial pools). We highly recommend using our Reverse Osmosis (RO) mobile filtration trailer which comes to your pool and recycles the water on site. Using RO filtration will give you and your family the best quality of water to swim in which is much better than our tap. Remember, just because your pool water is clear and blue doesn’t mean it’s always the best to swim in. If you are always getting out of the water feeling dry or itchy this is probably a sign that it’s time to replace the water.uestions on water quality or our service, let us know!
