The days of easier swimming pool maintenance are over. The temperatures are warming up which means weekly pool service and maintenance in Las Vegas are important. Clark County Pool & Lawn is your reputable residential and commercial swimming pool service and maintenance company and wants to provide you with information to get your swimming pool ready for the upcoming season.
To keep your pool swim-ready, proper swimming pool maintenance is vital to help keep your swimming pool water blue and clear. The main reason why weekly maintenance is vital is that algae love warm water and if your pool hasn’t been cared for properly it can turn in a day. At Clark County Pool & Lawn we can help you with your residential and commercial swimming pool maintenance and we hope this blog post gives you some insight on what needs to be done on a weekly basis to keep your water looking great and ready to swim in at all times.
Proper swimming pool maintenance includes:
First and foremost, your filter run times should be at a minimum of 8 -10 hours each day. This is based on the size of your pool and if you have a larger deep end pool this will probably need to increase by a few hours. Proper filtration is extremely important to keeping the water clear and constantly turning the water over by circulating all chemicals. If your pool isn’t circulating properly you might notice that the water turns cloudy which is the onset of algae.
Next, you will definitely need to increase the amount of chlorine that you use. You will need to increase your chlorine to at least 3 parts per million (ppm) and potentially up to 5 ppm during heavy swim times or if storms are expected. Chlorine will kill and prevent algae from blooming. Please also monitor your CYA levels as Cyanuric Acid is critical to prevent chlorine loss. The normal ranges of CYA are between 30 – 50 ppm but if you are higher than what is recommended it could be challenging for chlorine to work efficiently. In summary, the higher the CYA levels the higher the Free Chlorine (FC) levels will need to be to kill algae.
As for pH, this doesn’t change much as it should always be between 7.2 and 7.8. This is the perfect range to prevent scaling or causing the water to become cloudy or even potential chlorine loss.
Please keep in mind you will want to check your chemistry at least once a week, brush the steps, tile, benches, and net the pool of all debris. If you have a pool vacuum this can make your job a lot easier too. Don’t forget to empty the skimmer basket and remove debris from the pool as soon as possible. Any obstruction of water into the pump can cause burn out so removing debris from the skimmer should occur as much as possible.
In the end, having a swimming pool is fun but most people don’t like taking care of it because of the maintenance.
