Lowering Calcium Hardness, TDS, and CYA in Pools
Prior to pool water recycling, the only solution to lowering Calcium Hardness (CH), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cyanuric Acid (CYA), phosphates, nitrates, salts, and waterborne diseases was to drain and refill a swimming pool. Now that it is summer, water is at a premium, the Las Vegas water is hard, and especially during times of drought and extreme water conservation measures draining a swimming pool should be the last thing on your mind. Our water is hard and most pool professionals will recommend draining a swimming pool but Clark County Pool & Lawn wants you to think about a much better solution. With water conservation being discussed more and more, most people are looking for alternatives to everything they do. Thankfully, with your swimming pool, this is something you can do and we want this blog post to explain how we can recycle your swimming pool water and conserve up to 85% of it!
Every two years you should consider changing out the water in your swimming pool. Our tap water is loaded with high levels of calcium, magnesium, and other hardness minerals, and over time these hardness levels in your swimming pool gradually increase in concentration. This occurs because as pool water evaporates, the hardness minerals remain in solution and gradually build up as time goes by. When these minerals get high in concentration you will begin to notice the following issues:
- Calcium scaling on the water tile line
- Calcium scaling on the interior finish of the swimming pool
- Hardness buildup on your filtration equipment
- Calcium scaling on spillways and decorative water features
- Calcium scaling on your salt chlorinator if you have one
- Potential increase in chlorine and other chemicals used
If you live in the Las Vegas area and have a residential or commercial swimming pool you are going to have to deal with this and if you start recycling your swimming pool water every couple of years it will make your life easier and will keep your swimming pool looking great. At Clark County Pool & Lawn (Pure Pool Purification), we use our mobile trailer that is equipped with a Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration. We use RO to lower CH, TDS, CYA, phosphates, nitrates, salts, and waterborne diseases without draining it. In fact, we can conserve up to 85% of the existing water in the swimming pool and we guarantee you better water than the tap too! This process is completely self-contained which means we run on our own power, we can typically complete a residential job in less than a day and since you can swim in the pool while the process is being performed there is no downtime. We also never expose the interior finish of the swimming pool, which is a great benefit to prevent cracking or other damage to your liner.
