We look to pools for some refreshment when temperatures rise during the summer. Comes autumn, and we don’t even think of putting our pinkie finger in the cold water. But, there is still time to enjoy swimming even when the sun heat is gone – with a heated pool. Sadly, heaters can break easily. Luckily, there are many heater repair services in your area that are budget-friendly.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency offers answers to renewable pool heating, the most substantial cost for pool operators. In the meantime, pool owners are seeking advice on how to heat their pools without burning their wallets. With a little ingenuity, cold pool water will be a thing of the past.

Use of Solar Cover

Heated by the sun, warm water rises and evaporates, causing the pool water temperature to drop. One way to make sure that heat remains in the water is by spreading a solar cover over the water surface.

A Solar cover’s purpose is to prevent the evaporation of heated water and transfer the heat. The small air pockets in the cover capture sun heat and transfer it to the water – helping the temperature rise.

Use of Solar Mats or Black Hose

Black vinyl solar mats are made up of a system of tubes that hold water. Lay the mats on a flat surface where they can absorb the sun’s heat. With the help of a pump, the water can be pulled from the pool and circulated through the mat tubes to warm it up and push it back into the pool.

Solar Mats or Black Hose

The method is the same with a black garden hose which is left in the sun to soak up the heat. One end is connected to the pool pump that pulls the water out and heats it through the hot hose before recirculating it back into the pool from the other hose end.

Liquid Solar Cover

If you can’t be bothered by solar covers and mats, there is a simpler solution to keeping your pool heat in place. Pour a liquid solar cover into the pool and stop the heat loss. Alcohol creates a thin layer on the pool surface that acts as a barrier and prevents the water from evaporating. Less dense than water, alcohol reduces heated water evaporation by almost 85%.

Add a Protective Windscreen

If you live in a windy area, it may be wise to protect the pool with a windscreen. Winds can speed up the evaporation process while blowing across the pool surface. Installing a windscreen will block winds and allow heat to be better retained. At the same time, the pool occupants will feel the benefits of the windscreen and feel warmer when inside the pool.

Solar Heating System

You can also use the benefits of a solar heating system to warm the pool water. Pump pool water through the solar cells mounted on your roof and warm it before recirculating it back to the pool. The cost of operating the solar heating system is nothing, and you can use this benefit to extend the swimming season a bit longer.
