In-ground swimming pools made of concrete are reliable and long-lasting, whereas other fiberglass or vinyl pools are more susceptible to damage. It isn’t uncommon for small cracks or fissures to appear along the surface of a concrete swimming pool, which can result from aging, weather conditions, physical damage, and so on.

If you’d rather leave pool repairs to professional Las Vegas pool repair service providers, you won’t have to worry about the functionality and efficiency of your pool. On the other hand, if you’re up to the challenge of fixing the cracks in your in-ground pool, we bring you a few easy DIY fixes to try.

Repair Minor Surface Cracks or Punctures

Vinyl Pools

Cracks in vinyl-liner pools are fairly easy to fix; you’ll need a vinyl patch kit. Thanks to most of the vinyl patch kits working underwater. If there’s a puncture in your vinyl pool, cut the vinyl patch into an oval or a circle, depending on its shape.

In general, cut the patch at least half an inch bigger than the puncture or the crack and stick it over the hole. Apply pressure and ensure that there are no air bubbles and the puncture is nicely sealed.

Fiberglass Pools

For fiberglass pools, punctures and cracks can be easily fixed with a fiberglass pool repair kit. First, if the crack is below the surface, drain the pool until the crack is no longer underwater. Next, smoothen the cracked area with sandpaper and cut around the crack or puncture with a blade made of fiberglass.

Lastly, fill the crack with hydraulic cement, add a bond coat layer, and top it off with mixed polyester putty. Wait for the putty to settle before you sand it smooth. After sanding, add a fiberglass layer, a gel coat, and a fiberglass cloth, and wrap it up with a final gel layer.

Repair Minor Surface Cracks or Punctures in a Concrete Pool

When it comes to concrete pools, you can fix surface cracks and holes with as little as a screwdriver and some putty. First off, have a flathead screwdriver to smoothen the area around the crack or hole. After you’ve done that, get a special pool putty and coat the entire crack or hole.

Make sure it’s entirely filled with putty and there’s no way for water to get into the hole.

You would probably have to drain the pool for significant pool damage. To do so, unplug two hydrostatic relief plugs from the pool floor. Next, have a 4-inch grinder to make the crack bigger and moisten the area.

Now, grab some plaster and stuff the crack with it. Make sure the inside of the crack is moist so that the plaster sticks well. If the crack is more than an inch deep, use hydraulic cement and then top it off with pool plaster.
