HARD WATER WILL DESTROY SWIMMING POOLS

If you’ve spent a lot of money on your swimming pool or enjoy keeping it clean one of the biggest ways is by managing your Calcium Hardness levels. Many swimming pool owners will say, “What is the concern with high levels of Calcium Hardness?” I’m familiar with chlorine, pH, and Total Alkalinity but why is it so important to manage our calcium levels? In Las Vegas, Nevada, the water is extremely hard and if you don’t regulate it, it can cause serious damage to your swimming pool, filtration equipment, and water features.  At Clark County Pool & Lawn, we are familiar with managing Calcium Hardness (CH) and we hope this blog post helps you with how to handle it. In the swimming pool industry, it is recommended to have between 200 – 400 parts per million (ppm) CH but in many of the above areas, the calcium levels have been known to come out of our tap water around 400 ppm and higher! To help explain this point further, when your water evaporates, the hardness minerals remain in the solution and gradually build up in concentration. When this happens it will eventually scale your water tile line, interior finish, filtration equipment, spillways, decorative water features, and your salt chlorinator if you have one. You might now be asking yourself is, “that why I get that white ring around my swimming pool?” The answer is yes, it is because your Calcium Hardness levels are high and this is exactly why they need to be monitored more.

HOW TO TEST FOR HARD WATER

At Clark County Pool & Lawn, we highly recommend buying yourself a Calcium Hardness Taylor Test Kit to help monitor the levels. They are relatively easy to use, extremely accurate, and can help prolong the lifespan of your investment if you monitor it more and change out the water when necessary. Typically, this is when your calcium levels reach 600 ppm and higher or every two years. If you do this it can prevent the heavy scaling from occurring which can also ruin your plumbing. By choosing to work with us and use our mobile filtration RO trailer we can give you drinking quality water to swim in and it will be a wise investment for your swimming pool. Just imagine swimming in Reverse Osmosis quality water… with us this is possible. We are committed to giving you great water and prolonging the lifespan of your investment.
